Here you'll find directions for section 7 of the Blackwater Valley Path.
Distance: 1.5 miles
1 Cross the A30
- Use the pedestrian crossings to cross the A30 and cross the slip road
Station link: to Blackwater
- Join the path and continue on the right bank over Wish Stream
The junction of the Wish Stream with the River Blackwater historically denotes the “Three counties junction” of Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire. During the building of the roundabout in 1990, the Wish Stream was diverted and now runs a few metres north of the boundary.
Look for the striking White Poplar on the river bend.
2 Shepherd Meadows
- Turn left, cross the bridge and follow the river until you meet a surfaced path
- Turn right to cross the bridge, then immediately left and continue to follow the river to a large metal rail bridge
Shepherd Meadows is a “Site of Special Scientific Interest” (SSSI), because of the abundance of rare meadow and woodland plants. In the hedge, by the track junction to the car park, grows the very rare Black Poplar tree. Immediately after this junction is a flower-rich meadow - in the summer, look for Orchids among the Sneezewort, Knapweed, Betony, Meadowsweet and Great Burnet.
3 Swan Lane
- Cross the metal bridge, which spans the railway and river, and continue to Swan Lane.
4 Sandhurst station
- Turn right up Swan Lane
- Take the public footpath on the left just before the railway bridge
- The path ends on Sandhurst High Street by the station
